SEC Industries bags APTDC award

HYDERABAD, Oct. 7

SEC Industries Ltd, a city-based technology focussed industry, has bagged the `best innovative technology development award sponsored by the Andhra Pradesh Technology Development Corporation (APTDC) for 2002.

The award would be presented by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, at the `Technology summit & exhibition', organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and APTDC on Tuesday.

SEC has developed a technology called the dual-contour stretch forming process, which is useful in the development of missile systems. It also finds application in aerospace and space research areas, according to Mr D. Seshagiri Rao, its Founder Chairman.

The project to develop the technology was completed in 11 months and the airframe sections fabricated were put through tests successfully during the flight trials at the interim test range, Balasore off Orissa coast.

SEC said the product substantially decreased the country's dependence on import.

The company had developed the entire process in-house by deploying a dedicated team of professionals. The airframe sections require high-strength, light-weight alloys with sophisticated technical features. The only manufacturing technique was the stretch forming process and the solution was to import at huge costs.

SEC Industries, started in 1954 is currently focussed on development of high-end equipment for defence and aerospace industries.
