NEW DELHI, Oct. 6

MEMBERS of noted film-maker V. Shantaram's family have announced the setting up of the Rajkamal Academy of Cinematic Excellence (RACE).

The academy comprising veterans from the film business will work towards the development of the industry. The first initiative will be the setting up of the RACE National Awards.

Kiran Shantaram, Chairman, RACE said, "The transition of V. Shantaram Awards to RACE Awards is to reinforce the vision of V. Shantaram of instituting an award for the industry by the industry.

"RACE aims to further improve the judging process for V. Shantaram Awards by involving veterans from the industry across the country to give it legitimacy and negate regional bias".

Some other plans include organisation of film festivals, conduct workshops and run programmes to expose the Indian technicians to newer technologies.
