Truck, bus tyre production up in July

NEW DELHI, Oct. 1

TRUCK and bus tyre production in the country zoomed in the month of July to touch a level of 8.42 lakh tyres, the highest production level recorded in this category during the first four months of the current fiscal.

This category, which accounted for more than 70 per cent of the turnover of the domestic tyre industry, had registered a production level of 7.98 lakh tyres during June 2002.

According to the latest data released by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA) here today, the production of passenger car tyres by ATMA members touched a level of 7.66 lakh tyres during July 2002 as against a production level of 6.93 lakh tyres in the previous month.

Production of light truck tyres also increased in July 2002 to touch 2.23 lakh tyres as against 2.07 lakh tyres in the previous month.

Truck and bus tyre exports touched a level of 1.68 lakh tyres during July 2002 as against an export level of 1.46 lakh tyres recorded in the previous month.
