THE Designated Authority in the Ministry of Commerce has initiated anti-dumping investigations on alleged dumping of hexamine from Iran.
Hexamine is a white crystalline powder with a sweet metallic taste. In a pure form, it is colourless and odourless. The most important industrial use of hexamine is in the manufacture of solid phenolic resins. It is also used for manufacture of adhesives, coatings and in the preservation of hides. Hexamine also finds application as a rubber vulcanisation accelerator, corrosion inhibitor for steel and stabiliser for lubricating oils.
Kanoria Chemicals and Industries Ltd (KCIL) had filed the petition seeking anti-dumping probe on alleged dumping of hexamine from Iran. KCIL had reported a net profit of Rs 7.77 crore on a turnover of about Rs 330 crore during fiscal 2000-01. KCIL is one among the four producers of hexamine in India.
Industry sources said that about 120 tonnes of hexamine had been imported into India from Iran during April-June. The period of investigation for the purpose of the current probe is from April 1, 2000 to June 30, 2002.
