Australian institute keen on tie-up with NIFT

COIMBATORE, Sept. 9

THE Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in Australia is looking for a possible tie-up with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Tirupur for a programme on fashion design.

"It is still in the conceptual stage," the Division Manager (International Services), CIT, Ms Pauline Robinson, told Business Line. She was here to assess what NIFT had to offer, before deciding on the tie-up.

Ms Robinson expressed confidence about the tie-up that the Australian University was contemplating about. She said that there was a lot of synergy between NIFT and CIT, particularly as both these institutions had the same orientation with the industry and were doing `a bit' of work for the industry.

On the tie-up, she refused to divulge details, but made it clear that CIT was not looking at teaching and would be involved in staff exchange and student credits.

She observed that this tie-up, when through, would provide ample scope for the students as most of Australian production was off-shore, and this would enable them to learn the designs, quality standards of the importing country and assess their needs as well.

Reverting to the education scenario, she said international student enrolment in Australian Universities was on the rise, as the Australian Government was keen on having international students as migrants. "The quota for international students has been increased and the Government has liberalised the norms," she said.
