Indonesia joins ICO

MUMBAI, Sept. 3

INDONESIA has become a member of the International Coffee Organisation (ICO), having completed procedures for membership, bringing to 40 the number of contracting parties to the International Coffee Agreement.

The Government of Indonesia's UN Mission in New York deposited an instrument of accession to the International Coffee Agreement 2001 with the treaty section of the UN on August 23, the ICO said in a release.

Indonesia is world's fourth largest coffee producer, with production in 2001-02 estimated at six million bags.

The agreement came into force provisionally on October last for a period of six years.

There are 27 countries as exporting members including India and 13 importing members.
