HYDERABAD, July 26

THE Monsanto Fund has granted $50,000 to the Schoolnet Foundation for a technology-enabled learning programme in 15 Government schools in Hyderabad.

Schoolnet is an educational initiative of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS). The grant would be used for enhancing learning outcomes by upgrading teaching skills, providing multimedia content and introducing new teaching methodologies.

Part of the funds would also be utilised towards the purchase of computers and related hardware. Currently, about 100 schools, both Government and less empowered with a strength of around 50,000 are being supported by the Schoolnet Foundation.

The Executive Director (Finance) of the Foundation, Mr Alok Bhargava, said "With this money we will make a start towards shaping these 15 municipal and Government Telugu schools into models, to show that technology can be used to upgrade education, regardless of language".

Schoolnet has entered into an agreement with the Directorate of School Education, Hyderabad for the implementation of this technology-based learning programme in a pilot project mode in 15 schools, according to a press release.
