Revised rules on explosives ready

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, July 5

THE draft of the revised explosives rules is ready and would be discussed by the Development Council for Explosive Industry for further fine-tuning, the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Dr Raman Singh, has said.

Representations from the fireworks industry have pointed out that the provisions of the Explosives Rules, 1983 were too harsh and that fireworks were the least explosive and hazardous, the Minister said while addressing the first meeting of the reconstituted Development Council, which met here recently.

The views of the fireworks industry had been taken into consideration and adequate provisions made in the revised draft of the explosive rules, the Minister said.

He urged the industry to invest more in research and development and acquisition of modern and latest technologies for its healthy growth.

The industry has to update technology to face stiff competition in the global market from countries such as China.
