Teams shortlisted for eco award

BANGALORE: Four teams, all from Bangalore, have earned the distinction of being short listed for the national finals of the Volvo Young Environmentalists Award.

The finals to be held later this month will decide the Indian representative at the global finals of the awards to be held from September 21 to 25 at Gothburg, Sweden. The teams members include Nidhi Paul, Shefali Agarwal and Kristina Chu, Siddarth Samrath and Nishant; Rahul Malhotra, and Biswaroop Mukherjee (all from Mallya Aditi International School and Harshit Agarwal, Safdar, Visesh Vinod, Karan Sanghvi and Harry Sridhar from Soophia's School.

The winning team from the selection of the projects presented at the finals will compete with over 30 teams from 12 countries ranging from Sierra Leone and Mauritius to Canada and New Zealand. The Volvo Young Environmentalists award is a contest for encouraging students to do research and present projects on environmental issues. Mr Ulf Nordqvist, Managing Director, Volvo India Private Ltd, said "we are delighted that team from India have come forward to participate in this global event."
