THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has approved necessary amendments to rules for enforcing awards in labour disputes declared by industrial courts and labour courts from the date of pronouncement itself.

This has been necessitated due to complaints about delay in the timely disbursement of wages and other benefits, which is entailed by the delay in notifying the awards by the courts in the Gazette, according to Mr Elias George, Secretary (Labour).

The applicable provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act will be suitably amended to enable the promoter and the labourer approach the court directly if bilateral efforts to reach an amicable settlement do not bear fruit, Mr George said.
