BAI reservations on tender reforms

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, June 14

THE Andhra Pradesh Chapter of the Builders' Association of India (BAI) has expressed its reservations against certain provisions of the tender reforms proposed to be ushered in by the State Government.

BAI has opposed the proposal for reducing the tender excess from 15 per cent to 10 per cent. It wants the excess percentage to be increased to 20 per cent as the "department is not preparing realistic estimates''.

According to the BAI State Chairman, Capt. K. Kishan, the Government's proposal to fix the responsibility of land acquisition on contractors would also cause enormous hardship to the latter. Hence, he wants the Government to work out detailed modalities and come out with a proper legislation before any such responsibility is entrusted to the contractor.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr Kishan also took exception to the proposal to entrust the contractor with the task of maintenance of the work executed for a period of 10 years.
