Karnataka HC nod for special courts

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court Chief Justice, Mr N. K. Jain, has agreed to the State Government's proposal to set up two special courts for speedy disposal of cases, booked under the Civil Rights Enforcement Act.

Disclosing this to reporters here, the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr D. B. Chandre Gowda, said these courts would hear cases of atrocities against scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. One such court would function from Tumkur from next month.

As many as 2,022 cases had been registered under the Act in the State, he added.

He said both the Houses of Legislature would start its sitting from July eight. Initially, the business was slated till July 31. However, depending on the decision of the Business Advisory Committee, the session might be extended.
