CHENNAI, June 1

ETA General Pvt Ltd, the joint venture between the Dubai-based ETA Ascon group and Fujitsu General of Japan which manufactures airconditioners, intends to use India as the manufacturing hub for selling into the SAARC countries, Fujitsu General's Senior Managing Director Mr Masayoshi Matsumoto, has said.

The company estimates the SAARC market for air conditioners at "100,000 units excluding Pakistan".

Today, ETA General launched `ceiling wall air-conditioners' (christened `Stealth'). It "fits in snuggly between the ceiling and the wall, is unobtrusive to the eye and is expected to be an interior designer's delight". Being on the ceiling, the cool air is equally distributed throughout the room, company officials said.

"We will be soon launching our entire range of variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems", Mr Matsumoto said. This year, the company expects to sell 50,000 units in the Indian market and 5,000 units overseas. Mr Matsumoto also inaugurated a paint shop at its Pondicherry manufacturing facility.
