`New labour policy to aid industry'

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 16

THE new labour policy that the Kerala Government has formulated is aimed to encourage investments in the State and protect the interests of labour.

Explaining the salient features of the new policy on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Congress-led UDF Government, an official spokesman said that the policy also seeks to simplify labour laws and suitably structure social security systems in the State.

Exploitative and intimidatory tactics prevalent in the sector will be effectively contained. A separate cell will be set up for updating labour laws.

Review of the consumer price index has helped raise the quantum of benefits accruing to the labour class.

A Rs 4-crore scheme to computerise employment exchanges is being taken up with Central assistance.

This is expected to facilitate e-recruitments, the spokesman said.
