Airlines Emirates airline keen on Bangalore flight Our Bureau
Mr Roshan Baig, Karnataka Minister for Tourism & Haj, and Mr I. M. Vittalamurthy, Commissioner for Tourism, and MD, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation, holding discussions with Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and Chairman, Emirates.
BANGALORE, May 16 THE prospect of Emirates airline starting a direct flight from Bangalore to Dubai has brightened with the Karnataka Government taking up with the Civil Aviation Ministry the issue of permission to allow the new gateway. Emirates airline, which currently operates regular flights from Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai, was keen to start its services from Bangalore, according to the Karnataka Tourism Minister, Mr Roshan Baig. Addressing a press conference here today, on his return from Dubai after participating in the Arab Travel Mart (ATM), Mr Baig and Mr I.M. Vittalamurthy, Tourism Commissioner, said that Karnataka was a big draw at the ATM held in Dubai where the State had participated setting up an exclusive pavilion along with private sector tour and travel management companies. Mr Baig and Mr Vittalamurthy said that there was tremendous potential to promote Karnataka as a destination among the Arab countries as the travel to the US had dwindled post-September 11. Tourists were inhibited by fear psychosis and the treatment meted out to the Arabs following stringent security checks. Karnataka could cash in on this to attract their interest, Mr Baig said. "Our product mix comprising the joys of modern Bangalore, mixed with the splendour of Hampi's ruins, the adventure of camping, fishing and rafting at Kabini, the tranquil of Coorg and the heritage of Mysore was a big draw at the ATM,'' Mr Baig said. Though the Arabs did not easily identify Karnataka the reference to Bangalore aroused their interest and enquiries started pouring in on the other places of interest in the State, he said.
