New asthma drug from Dr Reddy's

HYDERABAD, April 10

DR Reddy's Laboratories Ltd has announced the launch of `montelukast' (generic name), a non-steroidal drug indicated for prohylaxis and treatment of asthma.

In a press release here on Wednesday, the company said it would market the product under the brand name Emlucast.

The product would be available as tablets in three strengths of 10 mg tablets for adults and 4 mg and 5 mg chewable tablets for children.

According to the company, montelukast, with its once-a-day dosage and 24-hour protection, would provide a high degree of patient compliance and preference.

The company had earlier launched Zuvair (generic name zafirlukast) during February.
