E-Governance Government - States Industry & Economy - Rural Development AP plans online info on rural funds usage Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, Feb. 15 A NEW initiative that could provide information at the click of a button, especially on how the funds allocated to rural development projects are spent, is set to be launched in Andhra Pradesh. A comprehensive, timely and accurate information about the financial and physical achievements of watershed projects in Andhra Pradesh would be provided by the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) soon. An online real-time management information system would be put in place by ESCI, which has been chosen as the nodal institute to monitor and evaluate the watershed projects under the Integrated Watershed Development Project (IWDP) scheme in the State. Experts from ESCI will visit the project areas at pre-determined times in the life-cycle of the project to get inputs. The online information made available by ESCI would be useful to the Commissioner, Rural Development, Andhra Pradesh, to track the pace and quality of implementation of the watershed development projects. At present, the projects are monitored on a monthly or quarterly basis with physical and financial reports. At times the district authorities, who co-ordinate the implementation face difficulties in formulating action plans due to lack of timely inputs.
