Corpn Bank to collect excise, tax

MANGALORE: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has nominated Corporation Bank for the collection of Central excise and service tax duties and for the payment of refunds to the Central Excise Commissionerate in Mangalore.

According to a press release, 60 branches of the bank in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Shimoga, Uttara Kannada and Dharwad in Karnataka, which come under the Mangalore Commissionerate of Central Excise, have been authorised for the collection work. The bank will commence collection in these branches from February 11.

Corporation Bank also organised a one-day workshop at its corporate office here recently to familiarise the branches concerned with the various procedures involved in the collection of excise duties.
