Wind screen claims -- Shield Autoglass teams up with IFFCO-Tokio Marine

NEW DELHI, Feb. 4

SPECIALITY glass repair and replacement company, Shield Autoglass Ltd, (SAL) has tied up with IFFCO-Tokio Marine for settling insurance claims related to wind screens, Mr Ratish Ramanujam, Chief Operating Officer, said on Monday.

SAL which operates under the `Windshield Experts' brand name, already has a similar tie-up with Tata-AIG Insurance Co. "We intend to tie up with some public sector insurance companies and Royal Sundaram Sun Alliance Insurance Co shortly,'' Mr Ramanujam told Business Line.

As per the tie-up, the vehicle insurance owner will be given the option by the insurer on repairing the wind screens at Windshield Experts, or the usual option of replacing it at a dealer. "The individual will get the option of repairing the wind screens instead of going for the more expensive option of replacement. The insurance company also benefits as the claims will be lower,'' Mr Ramanujam said.

Also, since SAL acts as surveyor the whole process will last only a few hours and the customer is not involved in any financial transaction as SAL settles the claim directly with the insurance company. The tie-up is on the presumption that since insurance companies will offer only depreciated value for replacement of old parts, insurance policy holders would be inclined to take a look at the option of repairing the wind screen.

SAL is a 50:50 joint venture between PSC Japan and Allied Fincap, an investment company in India.

While PSC specialises in part-replacement in the after-market internationally, it is the first time it is entering wind screen repair anywhere in the world. The company has a tie-up with international majors like Auto Glass, a specialist in this sector.
