Mixed trend at Kochi tea sale

A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust sale witnessed a fair general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties.

Of the quantity of 962,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market opened steady to Rs 1 to Rs 2 lower.But the drop was more as the sale progressed. Orthodox remained steady.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 50-70, medium CTC realised Rs 38-50 and poorer type were quoted at Rs 30-37. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 48-105, while medium BOPD realised Rs 30-33. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 18-20.

The leaf sale witnessed a less general demand and the quantity on offer was 5,95,000. Orthodox and CTC leaf grades barely remained steady and tended to ease. The best Nilgiri varieties earned between Rs 60-73, medium Orthodox realised Rs 40-47 and plain orthodox Rs 39-42. Medium CTC leaf quoted at Rs 33-38.
