Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) has entered into an agreement with Escotel Communications and Escorts Telecom for the sale of bandwidth in its optical fibre cable network.

Addressing a press conference, the GAIL Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Prashanto Banarjee said the company would provide bandwidth to Escotel in Western Uttar Pradesh and Escorts in the two circles of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on an exclusive basis for the next five years. The Service Level Agreement (SLA) also envisages availing of GAIL's fibre network capacity by the Escorts group in the Haryana circle and in other routes.

According to an official release, GAIL had entered the telecom sector in January 2001 as the first Category II Infrastructure Provider and leased bandwidth through the first SLA to Bharati Telesonics. In the last one year, it has expanded its existing OFC network to 3,600 km.
