BPL Telecom on Wednesday announced a partnership with Ericsson to distribute its range of enterprise products in India. Ericsson will provide the technology, while BPL will systems integration, distribution and sales, said Mr Henrik Christensen, Ericsson Marketing Director, Asia Pacific.

Ericsson plans to launch a new generation of PBX solutions in India through the partnership. Ericsson systems will cater to the medium and high-end markets. The solutions will offer the connection between an enterprise and converged data and voice network, and provide VoIP and IP telephony, which is expected to open up in India with effect from April 2002. BPL Telecom, an Rs 130-crore company, divested its trading business last year, said Mr Ranjit Shah, Managing Director, BPL Telecom, explaining the fall in revenues from Rs 150 crore the previous year.

The company is targeting a 30 per cent growth this year, helped by the partnership. BPL hopes to sell 60-70 million Swedish Kroners ($ 5-6 million) worth Ericsson products this year to the corporate, government and defence segments. Ericsson's other distributor in India is HCL Infosystems.
