NEW DELHI, Jan. 12

THE Minister for Small Industries of Afghanistan, Mr Mohammed Arif Norzai, has said that India has a key role to play in rebuilding his country.

Addressing a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Saturday, the visiting Minister said that construction, healthcare and education would be areas needing immediate attention.

``The immense experience that Indian industry has gained over the years in these sectors will prove beneficial for Afghanistan,'' Mr Norzai said. Further, the Minister was of the opinion that collaboration with India in sectors such as textiles, food processing and consumer durable industries was also beneficial.

Addressing the issue of infrastructure in Afghanistan, the Minister said that Indian agencies could provide consultancy in sectors such as power generation. Mr Norzai also called for holding of exhibitions in Afghanistan, which would help facilitate interaction between industrialists of the two countries.

Meanwhile, CII officials said that a 20-member chamber delegation would be visiting Afghanistan in an effort to boost bilateral trade. Besides, a `Made in India' exhibition will be held in Afghanistan in March.

Addressing the members of the Federation of the Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) on Friday, Mr Norzai urged the need for help and cooperation from the Government of India for reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan plans to establish an Industrial Estate Zone in Kabul and in this endeavour, technical skills of Indian entrepreneurs would be of immense help, he said.

Mr Norzai said that the Indian Government can help in rebuilding small industries and companies in Afghanistan and invited Indian businessmen to Afghanistan. All laws and rules in Afghanistan would be as per the international regulations and any difficulty faced by entrepreneurs will be sorted out according to international regulations, he said.
