`Agriculture vision'

The Partnership Summit-2002 in Bangalore, `Converging on a new business vision' (Business Line, January 5), inaugurated by the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, is a boost to Bangalore, India's Silicon City.

Other cities and towns should also be able to utilise their own advantages to the full. Why not we have a similar `agriculture vision' too for the new year?

The editorial, `Agriculture at crossroads' (January, 5) has pointed out that the economy of many States is too fragile for them to take up serious developmental work. At times, the Centre shirks its responsibility by saying that agriculture is a State subject. This shifting of responsibility should end. The Centre and States should cooperate and boost agricultural growth. Could we expect a vision statement for agriculture in the next Budget?
