SEBI and market

Shashi Kant, e-mail

The SEBI chairman, Mr D. R. Mehta seems to be waxing eloquent of the new instruments introduced to improve the market. These steps, are, indeed, welcome. But the irony is SEBI is still groping in the dark about the problems of the market.

Some of the issues affecting the market are: Operators' excesses, rampant insider-trading, lack of transparency, good corporate governance and the operator-promoter nexus.

Unless SEBI takes drastic steps, the market will not be rid of scams.
