Vikram Amin is Essar Steel ED

AHMEDABAD, Dec. 12

THE Essar Steel Ltd (ESL) has appointed Mr Vikram Amin as its new Executive Director.

Mr Amin, till recently President-Director of the Jakarta-based PT Essar Dhananjaya, has been inducted into the board of directors of ESL. He will be based at ESL's Hazira plant.

According to a company release, Mr Amin's brief includes almost the entire gamut of operations spanning marketing, production, materials, human resources and accounts. Significantly, it is the first time that ESL has gone in for the post of an executive director.

Mr Amin had been the President-Director of Essar's Indonesian venture since 1998, having taken over as Director, marketing of Essar Dhananjaya in 1996. He has been credited with being a key player in Essar's overseas drilling contracts both in the Middle East and Indonesia.

Mr Amin, who joined the Essar group in 1987, also played a significant role in the company's entry into the export market to counter the effects of the Indonesian economic crisis in 1998, thereby developing a diverse customer base for Essar, the release added.
