SEBI and market
The SEBI chairman, Mr D. R. Mehta seems to be waxing eloquent of the new instruments introduced to improve the market. These steps, are, indeed, welcome. But the irony is SEBI is still groping in the dark about the problems of the market.

Public sector banks
The Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India should reschedule various savings schemes in nationalised banks, to benefit both the banks and the depositors. Many private banks have imitated `Corpclassic' scheme of the public sector Corporation Bank.

Terrorism
Poto problems
The main objection to the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance is that it could be misused. Almost any law can be misused and that cannot be a reason to oppose a law which, in the present security environment, is necessary.
