We can

A. Jacob Sahayam, Karigiri

The excerpts from `Count your chickens before they hatch', has impressed that `Passion is the key' (Business Line, October 1) to success. Though Gandhiji and Subash Chandra Bose had the same passion to win freedom for India, Gandhiji's adoption of the st yle to suit the culture ensured him success.

This emphasises the necessity to adapt management theories and methods to the situations, culture or conditions prevalent in a particular region, industry or otherwise.

For example, the strategy in Tamil Nadu may not be suitable for Kerala. And success stories such as those of Ford and Gandhiji may not be numerous.

Gandhiji inspired people with self-respect. Yet there are the masses that are illiterate and ignorant scrounging around for crumbs instead of realising their rights to get work and a decent living. Just as individuals have to passionately believe in `I c an', governments that have the passion and believe in `We can', will succeed.
