Engg, chem products top duty passbook entries

5ENGINEERING and chemical products dominate the list of 400-odd duty entitlement passbook (DEPB) entries for which value caps have been removed by the Government from the DEPB schedule to bolster exports.

More than 50 per cent of the 400-odd items for which value caps have been removed are from the engineering products group, followed by the chemicals products in the DEPB schedule. Barely three items are from the textile products and about 10 each from th e plastics and electronics products category, sources said.

The decision to remove value caps for about 400 items in the DEPB schedule of the Handbook of Procedures, announced during the first week of October, was essentially aimed at boosting the export prospects of those items affected by the general slowdown i n the global trade.

In the textile products group, value caps have been removed on childrens sweat shirts; gents bermudas/mens shorts and jeans.

In electronic products, value caps have been removed for CRT data display monitor (colour CGA); television black & white of all screen sizes; copper clad laminates; colour picture tubes for TV; black & white (monochrome) picture tube for TV; TV glass bul bs/Shells; CRT glass bulbs/shells for CRT tubes and gamma ferric oxide.

The Directorate of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has also removed value caps on ABS briefcases/suitcases; polyester film; polyester chip for moulding grade; ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer; poly vinyl acetate emulsion; biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) fil m; sun control polyester film and safety helmets (all in the plastics product group).

Value caps have been removed on ampicillin capsules; cephalexin monohydrate; sodium silicate; aniline; paracetamol; potassium dichromate; sulpha methoxazole; industrial/automotive lubricants; polyester staple fibre; carbon black; tooth paste; herbal neem toothpaste; polyester texturised filament yarn (dyed/undyed) and shoe polish.

In the engineering products group, the existing value caps have been removed for GLS Lamps (100W and below); rear/front engine autorickshaws; scooters (in CKD/SKD/CBU condition); motor cycles (in CBU/SKD/CKD conditions) and mopeds (in CBU/SKD/CKD conditi ons).
