Bids soon for sale of four AP co-op mills

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, Sept. 19

THE Implementation Secretariat, the body overseeing and implementing privatisation process of the State-level public enterprises (SLPEs) in Andhra Pradesh, is in the process of calling for bids for sale of four co-operative spinning mills.

While the Implementation Secretariat has already completed the process of signing the sale and purchase agreement with the preferred bidder in respect to the Adilabad Co-operative Spinning mill, the other two, for which the process has been completed, ar e likely to be inked soon.

The four co-operative spinning mills, for which the Implementation Secretariat plans to advertise for bids, are located at Chirala, Chilkaluripeta, Nandyal and Parchur. These mills have been identified for privatisation under the first phase of public en terprise reform programme in the State.

In addition to this, the Implementation Secretariat has convened a meeting of over 50 cotton suppliers at the directive of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on a petition by cotton suppliers.

The High Court, in a writ petition filed by Susheela Cotton Corporation and others against the Andhra Pradesh Government, had directed the Secretariat to hold a hearing of cotton suppliers and their issues. Those who attended the meeting requested the Go vernment to consider their claims expeditiously, according to a Implementation Secretariat communique.

The High Court, while upholding the action of the State Government in deciding to sell the assets of three co-operative spinning mills at Nellore, Rajahmundry and Adilabad, had held that petitioners in the writ should be given a hearing to debate about t heir rights for payment of unpaid purchase money and other issues.
