Formation of new CoPU announced

NEW DELHI, May 1

THE Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr G.M.C. Balayogi, has announced the formation of the Committee on Public Undertakings (CoPU) for the term beginning on May 1, 2001 to April 30, 2002.

According to a press statement by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the duly-elected 22-members of the CoPU will have Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra as Chairman of the Committee. While the members of Lok Sabha include Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, Mr C.K. Jaffer Sharief, M r Rajiv Pratap Rudi, Mr Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Rajya Sabha members include Mr Suresh Kalmadi, Ms Ambika Soni and Mr Jibon Roy.

The Lok Sabha also announced the formation of the Committee on Estimates for the term ending April 30, 2002 with Prof Umareddy Venkateswarlu as the Chairman. The duly elected 30-member Estimates Committee, all drawn from the Lok Sabha, would include, amo ng others, Mr G.M. Banatwalla, Mr S. Bangarrappa, Mr Vinod Khanna, Dr C. Krishnan, Dr Ramakrishna Kusmaria, Mr A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudhury and Prof Rasa Singh Rawat.
