THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 1
THE Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) has posted a 20 per cent growth in turnover in 2000-01.
During the year, the company registered a turnover of Rs 75 crore as against Rs 61.98 crore in the previous year. More importantly, it achieved an operational profit during the last six months of the year, after having been in the red for many years.
The subsidiaries of Keltron posted a turnover of Rs 43 crore during the year which took the total turnover of the group to Rs 118 crore.
According to official sources, the company is set to introduce a performance-linked incentive scheme during the current year.
As part of the Keltron's role as a solution provider to the State Government in IT applications, the company has initiated steps to computerise this year's SSLC results for the first time. It has established four computer networks in the ``Pareeksha Bhav
an'' for this purpose with the help of four servers and 80 personal computers.
Tabulation work will be undertaken on the four independent networks, the servers of which are interconnected in the next level.
This apart, Keltron is engaged in making the State Secretariat a ``paperless office''. The automated file processing and movement system, for which Keltron has provided the computers and the software, is already in place in the information technology dep
artment on a pilot basis. The next on the agenda are the finance and health departments.
The software solution for the automated file movement system facilitates tracing, retrieval and archival of files. Besides routine work flow, the system will take care of customised applications and communication needs such as e-mail, Internet, intranet,
virtual discussion rooms and accessibility for the public.
