`Kanchenjunga is smiling'

The toy train of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR). The Railway Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, on Sunday dedicated the 119 year-old DHR, a Unesco world heritage site, to the world at a function at the Mall in Darjeeling.

The railway, opened in 1881, is the world's first narrow gauge and the second after the Semmering Hill Railway in Austria to win the world heritage status, which was conferred on it a year ago. Tourists and colourfully dressed locals turned up for the fu nction on a bright winter morning.
