APEDA approves 4.29 lakh t sugar export

NEW DELHI, Nov. 26
THE Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has issued registration-cum-allocation certificates (RCACs) for the export of 4.29 lakh tonnes of sugar. The release order for the same has also been issued by the Director

Following this, a quantity of 1.72 lakh tonnes of exports to Pakistan had also been made, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr V. Sreenivasa Rao, told the Lok Sabha.
He said that the Government had released a quantitative ceiling of 10 lakh tonnes for exports for the current fiscal and placed at the disposal of APEDA for issuing RCACs.
He added that the country's sugar exports amounted to 173,282 tonnes in 1997-98 (valued at Rs 244.45 crore), 12,735 tonnes in 1998-99 (Rs 17.36 crore) and 7,043 tonnes (Rs 10.77 crore) in 1999-2000. while imports stood at 346,905 tonnes (Rs 470.26 crore)
, 900,471 tonnes (Rs 1,111.22 crore) and 11,149,40 tonnes (Rs 1,105.84 crore) during the three financial years, respectively.
