`Vijaya Bank focus to be on IT-driven business'

Vijaya Bank proposes to focus more on the information technology-driven business from now onwards.

Addressing presspersons in Hyderabad, the Executive Director, Mr Michael Bastian, said the bank had drawn up phased information technology goals.

It proposed to initially go in for extensive computerisation of its branches covering up to 85 per cent of its business. Subsequently, it would embark upon inter-city and intra-city networking. It would later introduce other services such as Internet ban king, e-commerce and electronic data interchange.

Further, Vijaya Bank proposed to facilitate connectivity to major international ATM/debit card networks. The bank plans to actively use the Reserve Bank of India's network _ Indian Financial Network (Infinet) _ and also participate in the real time gross settlement network when introduced.

Vijaya Bank proposed to increase its branch network in urban and metro centres in the next couple of years, which would help the bank expand its clientele as well as mobilise low-cost deposits.

The bank has drawn up plans to introduce extended services such as Sunday banking, 7-day banking and the single-window concept to attract new customers.
