Offshore gas find in K-G basin

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Nov. 22

OIL and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has struck gas in the deep water of Krishna-Godavari (K-G) basin off the East coast.

The well KD-1-1 is located at a water depth of 844 metres and was drilled by ONGC's own upgraded rig, Sagar Vijay. The gas was discovered on November 18 and 19 at a depth of 2,525 metres from mean sea level. The flow rate of gas from the well is around 0 .4 million cubic metre per day.

ONGC plans to drill another well shortly in the deep-sea location, KDAB. The Petroleum Minister, Mr Ram Naik, who announced this gas find in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, said that it had opened the K-G deepwater offshore as a potential, commercial habitat for hydrocarbons.

The Rajya Sabha joined the Minister in complimenting ONGC on this gas find.
