KPMG launches Net risk management services
Our Bureau
MUMBAI, Aug. 28
KPMG'S Information Risk Management Practice on Monday announced the launch of its Internet Risk Management Services (IRMS).
The advisory firm will also offer Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) services as part of this initiative.
``PKI is based on cryptography incorporating public key encryption and digital signature process that enables secure electronic communication and exchange of data across an open public network,'' Mr. Kevin Coleman, Senior Partner, KPMG USA, said.
The introduction of IRMS gains importance in the light of the IT Act being passed by the Government, Mr. Sanjay Dhawan, Director, Information Risk Management, KPMG India, said.
``Moreover, when risk in business is evaluated, technological risks are often overlooked. But with the Internet becoming synonymous with business opportunity, security is a critical concern as the Net, in its basic form, doesn't support any form of encry
ption.''
He also said: ``Apart from a business plan, organisations will also need an enterprise security architecture. PKI and Internet risk management services are essential to ensure all potential security threats are assessed and addressed.''
Through IRMS, KPMG will offer various services including Internet security analysis, Internet threat assessment, Internet penetration testing, Internet security controls review and Internet security policies development.
``Having PKI in place would facilitate the growth of a number of businesses such as e-ticketing, information publishing, Web banking, e-commerce, secure intranets and extranets in a secure environment,'' Mr. Coleman said.
