NEW DELHI, Aug. 28
THE Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is likely to announce a comprehensive policy package for the small-scale industry at the inauguration of the first two-day national conference on `Small-scale industries' here on August 30.
During the two-day event, several issues relating to the SSI sector such as the ``impact of the World Trade Organisation on the sector'' and ``credit guarantee scheme for the sector'' will be discussed. In addition, the 45th meeting of the SSI Board, com
prising representatives of Government ministries, banks, State governments and SSI associations, will also be held.
The sector has been contributing 40 per cent of the total domestic industrial production and accounts for seven per cent of the GDP. Further, the 32-lakh SSI units all over the country produce over 8,000 products which range from day-to-day items to soph
isticated high technology items such as aircraft components.
