Ford India to expand dealer network

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, Aug. 28

HAVING projected a sales target of about 21,000 mid-sized cars this fiscal, Ford India Ltd is in the process of ramping up its dealer network and has drawn up plans to reach out to new markets with 66 outlets.

The Vice-President, Marketing, Sales and Service, Mr. John Fink, said the network would be strengthened from the present 47 to 66 by the year-end.

Inaugurating the Sundaram Ford facility here, the second Ford facility in the city and the fourth in the State, Mr. Fink said that this was part of the company's initiative to reach out to newer markets with comprehensive sales, spares and service outlet s.

``We do not believe in bringing an existing successful model into the country. Ford designs and develops cars specific to a particular market. We have adequate business in the mid-sized car market and command over 25 per cent of the car sales in this seg ment in the country,'' he said.

On the possibility of synergetic association with Daewoo Motors, Mr. Fink said, ``We will have to wait for the outcome of the negotiations.''

The Vice-President of Sundaram Motors, Mr. Sharath Vijayaraghavan, said that this association was part of the company's efforts to embark on large-scale expansion by opening up of number of outlets for sales and service of motor vehicles and spare parts to keep its scale of operations in tune with the expected economic growth.
