Freedom of Information
S. Srinivas Yadav, Hyderabad
How ironic it is that while the BJP-led NDA Government has introduced a Bill on Freedom of Information in Parliament, it is denying Mr. Jethmalani the freedom to disclose the contents of certain files that have an important bearing on the issu
es on which his resignation was based.
Matters bearing to the conduct of government officials -- be it the Chief Justice or the Prime Minister or the Attorney General -- cannot be kept a secret from the public.
Mr. Jethmalani is doing a great service by his outspokenness. Maybe he should be a little moderate in the language he uses but we may also remember Lord Keynes' words: ``Words have sometimes to be violent because they represent the assault of thought on
the unthinking''.
