Pyxis Tech sets foot in Australia

V.Rishi Kumar

HYDERABAD, Aug. 13

PYXIS Technology Solutions Ltd, a Visakhapatnam Export Processing Zone (VEPZ)-based software development company, has set up a joint venture company in Australia in collaboration with Sydney-based Instant Pages Pty.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr. B. Satish Kumar, Managing Director, said that the new company plans to focus on the business opportunities in the region. Pyxis has also WAP-enabled the portal site developed for Instant Pages.

``We plan to leverage on the business opportunities during the Sydney Olympics. When the bids were called for, the committee did not consider the WAP issue,'' he said.

``But the demand for WAP-enabling sites going up by the day, they are now convening a meeting to address this issue. Having the capability to develop WAP sites, the joint venture company plans to address these issues.''

Mr. Kumar added: ``Having expertise in steel trading, Pyxis had developed the portal, Steelexchange.com. We had recently commissioned a sugar industry portal for NCS Infotech and are now in the process of developing a cement industry portal for a Calcutt a-based cement manufacturer.''

According to the CEO, Pyxis plans to leverage its capabilities in developing industry-specific portals to develop a ``virtual commodity exchange''.

``This will help us provide a common platform for trading. Initially, it will integrate steel, cement, sugar etc., but later, other commodities are planned to be integrated.''

The company, which had launched Steelexchange.com this year, recently concluded a Rs. 27-crore trade of steel.

The portal has over 3,000 members enrolled with it and plans to enlist more members across the country. Its steel trading platform at Chennai was commissioned recently, Mr. Kumar said.

Pyxis is working on city-specific services portal, Cityonline.com. ``This is expected to act as information guide and will be accessible on even a mobile phone as we plan to WAP-enable the site.''

It will give information about current happenings, news, personal and emergency services, hotels and restaurants, weather, travel and related utilities. The company plans to outsource its services through local partners.
