Wage revision for Kerala tile workers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Aug. 2

THE Kerala Government has revised the minimum wages for the various categories of tile industry workers in the State.

For daily wages, the workers have been placed in categories of A,B,C,D, and E. The minimum wage for the A category, which covers masons, blacksmiths, carpenters, engine drivers and electricians with wireman licence, has been fixed at Rs. 74.

For the B category (fitter, mechanic and turner), the minimum wage is Rs. 73.50. The other minimum wages are: category C (slab placer, trimmer, kiln setter and pottery worker) Rs. 73; category D (garbler and slab beater) Rs. 72.50; and category E (headlo ad worker, tile conveyor man, slicer and firing helper) Rs. 72.

The employees earning monthly salary have been divided into four categories for purpose of fixing the minimum level of salary. Of them, general foreman, accountant, head clerk, UD clerk, cashier and stenographer will get a minimum salary of Rs. 2,278, wh ile storekeeper, LD clerk, typist and time-keeper will be eligible for a minimum salary of Rs. 2,245.

For the third category comprising supervisor and head worker of Commonwealth Trust factories, the base salary has been fixed at Rs. 2,212. For the last category covering watchman and attender, the minimum salary will be Rs. 2,157.

According to an official statement, the daily wage earners will get Dearness Allowance at the rate of six paise per point above the base level of 900 points. For the salaried class, the DA will be at the rate of Rs. 1.80 per point above 900 points. The r evised wages will be effective from June 24, 2000.
