Black tiger shrimp up

R. Balaji

CHENNAI, Aug. 2

BLACK tiger shrimp prices have shot up to Rs. 500 per kg for 30 counts grade on head-on basis. Arrivals have been lower than expected, and heavy demand has helped to prop up prices, said buyers.

Packers are demanding $ 18.10 per kg for 16/20 counts. Contracts have been concluded at $ 18.05, and prices are likely to increase, according to market estimates.

Contrary to expectations the season appeared to be winding up early, and arrivals this goon were likely to be less than 1000 tonnes. Some stocks were available at Nellore and Ongole in Andhra Pradesh, said sources.
