`EFC demand on State fiscal reforms not legally tenable'
THE Vice-Chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board and a former member of the Seventh Finance Commission, Dr. I.S. Gulati, has observed that the Constitution does not envisage any such thing as a Finance Commission imposing a monitorable programme of e conomic reforms on States and expressed the doubt if the extant term of reference of the Eleventh Finance Commission (EFC), which submitted its recommendations last week, will be able to stand the scrutiny of law.



Nepal invites more Indian investments
THE visiting Nepalese Prime Minister, Mr. Girija Prasad Koirala, today invited more investments from the Indian business community into his country while assuring them that his Government will do its best to facilitate cooperation in core economic areas for the benefit of both the countries.
