Public projects: High cost of poor planning and monitoring
THE Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Mr. Arun Shourie, has informed the Lok Sabha that as on March 31, 2000, out of the 425 Central Sector Projects costing Rs. 20 crores and above on the monitor of his Ministry, 205 projects wer e running behind their original schedules. Consequently, the cost of these projects had increased to Rs. 84,167 crores from the original estimate of Rs. 52,987 crores, that is, by 58.8 per cent.
