Facing competition in the retail business
BY all accounts, the retail sector is going to be the next battleground on the Indian scene where the liberalisers and the protectionists are going to face off. Already the trade association meetings that were held recently provided a mixed message with some concerned about the `opening of the floodgates' to the foreigners and the other group, most notably Shoppers Stop, confident that it can face any assault and actually welcoming some competition.
