CII meet on finance next month

HYDERABAD, Jan. 18
AN international conference on finance, `The India Finance Forum _ 2000', is scheduled to be held here on February 4 and 5 under the auspices of the State chapter of the CII.
The theme of the conference is `Financing India's growth in the new millennium'. Mr. Peter Woicke, Executive Vice-President of the International Finance Corporation, Washington, Dr. Bimal Jalan, Governor of RBI, Dr. Krishna Palepu of Harvard University a
nd Mr. Georges Ugeux, Head of NYSE International, are among those who are expected to take part in the conference.
The aim of the conference, being organised for the first time in the South, is to equip corporate India to the emerging opportunities in the 21st century in the context of the financial architecture undergoing changes due to globalisation, technology and
financial disintermediation, according to Mr. Anil Kumar V. Epur, Deputy Chairman of the CII Southern region.
It would also focus on the shape of capital markets in the 21st century, new avenues for capital, funding mega projects and public-private partnerships, long-term debt markets and funding entrepreneurship.
Mr. Anil Kumar said one of the tasks was to attract as many industries as possible for Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, had been invited to inaugurate the conference. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, would deliver the
keynote address.
Mr. Ramesh Gelli, Chairman of the forum, said different perspectives on growth would be presented at the conference to enable the Indian economy gear up to the changing situation.
Mrs. Sheela Bhide, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department, said with several mutual funds, venture capital funds, insurance, IT and biotechnology companies coming up, the need for a dialogue on credit rating, benchmarking and financing had beco
me imminent.
About 350 delegates from different parts of the world are expected to take part in the conference which is being backed by the State Government.
